Help & frequently asked questions
Straight from the roastery
Good questions.
Honest answers.
About the bean, the brew, and the bag on its way to you. A few things we're often asked — without the coffee snobbery.
Ask us something elseIsn't robusta the cheap, bitter one?
Commodity robusta — grown low, picked green, dried carelessly — earned that reputation. Ours is the other robusta: grown at 1,100 metres under forest shade, picked ripe by hand, and sun-dried whole in the cherry. Altitude and ripeness build the sweetness the species supposedly lacks; careful roasting keeps the bitterness in its place. Twice the caffeine stays, though. You're welcome.
What does 'natural process' mean?
The cherry is never washed or pulped — it dries whole in the sun for weeks, fruit still wrapped around the seed, feeding sweetness and body inward as it shrinks. Every Korku lot is processed this way. It's slower and riskier than washing, and it's where our dark-fruit and jaggery notes come from.
Which coffee should I start with?
If you drink coffee with milk — filter kaapi, cappuccino, strong homestyle — start with Melghat Midnight, our dark roast. If you drink it black or brew pour-over, start with Sipna Serenade, the medium roast. If you own a roaster, you know which page to visit.
Which grind should I choose?
Tell us your brewer and we grind for it: South Indian filter, espresso, moka pot, pour-over, French press, or cold brew — or take whole beans if you grind at home (the freshest option). Full doses and temperatures are on our brew guides page.
How fresh is the coffee I'll get?
We roast in small 1.2 kg batches every week and ship within 24 hours of your order. Every bag carries its roast date. Like most naturals, our coffees drink best from a few days after roast up to about two months.
How should I store it?
Airtight, dark, and dry — the bag it comes in, rolled tight and clipped, in a cupboard. Never the fridge (condensation), never the freezer for a bag you're opening daily. Buy the 100 g size if you drink slowly; fresher beats bigger.
How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?
Orders are processed within 24 hours and typically arrive within 5 days anywhere in India. Shipping is free on orders above ₹500; below that it's a flat ₹80.
Can I return coffee?
Because coffee is a consumable, we can't accept returns or offer refunds as a rule — but if something's genuinely wrong with your order, write to us and we'll make a call case by case. We'd rather keep a customer than a bag.
Do you sell green (unroasted) beans?
Yes — the same naturally dried micro-lot we roast, in 500 g and 1 kg packs, and in bulk for roasters and cafés. See the green catalog, or write to us for wholesale quantities.
Is the coffee really grown inside a tiger reserve?
In the hills of Chikhaldara, in and around the buffer of the Melghat Tiger Reserve — protected under Project Tiger since 1973. The farms are small, shaded plots inside a living forest, tended by Korku growers, the tribe the coffee is named for.
Who is behind Korku Coffee?
A small team in Amravati, Maharashtra, operating as Satpuda Naturals — the first coffee brand born and bred in the state. We log every roast, publish our numbers, and we're building our own roasting machine because the one we really want doesn't exist. The story page has the long version.
Milk or black?
Midnight was built to punch through milk. Sipna is happy either way. We won't judge — but try each one black at least once, while the bag is fresh. That's the cup we roasted for.
